Two years ago with camera in hand, Michael Rapaport, began a personal, introspective filmmaker’s journey into the lives of one of his favorite bands of all time, A Tribe Called Quest.
This film stands as testament to an effort over two years in the making – documenting, tracking, trying to understand Tribe. As we the filmmakers work with hundreds of hours of footage, clips, tracks, beats, interviews and fly-on-the-wall behind the scenes footage, this blog is here to introduce you to our story.
Here you can track the research, see photos, link to videos and read the stories, our stories, your stories about Tribe. Where are they now? They’ve played what was widely viewed as a farewell tour on Rock The Bells in ‘08. That’s where the odyssey begins. Mike Rapaport goes to his friends’ reported ‘last gig’ in Southern California and starts filming. Will they continue to perform? Will they record again? Questions fresh in mind, camera firmly in hand, cinematography covered through seasoned pro Robert Benavides , Mike set out to find the inner Tribe. Along the way, friends came in to the fold to help produce. An editor, the fantastic Lenny Mesina, has come aboard. All fans of Tribe, all believers in Mike’s efforts and all true documentarians.
